About Us
Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC) is a beautiful campus located in the inland Pacific Northwest, on the ancestral home of the Spokane Tribe, near the Spokane River. Our campus is not far from the urban center of Spokane, a mid-sized city with a high quality of life and quick access to the outdoors.
SFCC is one of two accredited community colleges that comprise the Community Colleges of Spokane (CCS). Serving about 6,000 students, SFCC endeavors to be an educational leader and a responsive partner with the community and region, offering access to relevant programs of the highest quality. We offer a large liberal arts/transfer program (approximately 75% of total enrollment) as well as state-of-the-art professional technical programs (about 25%). In addition to serving the urban and suburban population in greater Spokane, CCS provides educational services to rural communities throughout a 12,302 square mile region in Eastern Washington. This region includes all of Spokane, Stevens, Whitman, Ferry, and Pend Oreille Counties as well as portions of Lincoln County.

About the Associate Dean of Connected Learning - Spokane Falls Community College
JOB SUMMARY
The Associate Dean of Connected Learning provides leadership that supports the goals and strategic plan of the division. They will plan, implement, coordinate and evaluate division departments and programs, including the Library and Collaborative Learning.
The Associate Dean will provide organizational support for the professional development needs of faculty, Pathways practices, academic affairs program review coordination, eLearning, and first-year experience interventions. The Associate Dean plays a leadership role helping the college facilitate teaching and learning changes essential for attracting students to the college, and increasing retention and completion of all students, including those from underserved groups. The Associate Dean acts as a bridge between academic divisions and student affairs, by implementing a structure that connects teaching and learning to all facets of the student lifecycle.
The Associate Dean is a member of the college's Academic Affairs team and directly supervises faculty, directors, program managers, supervisors, and indirectly supervises the direct reports to these positions. The Associate Dean has full authority to develop and implement division protocol and best practices, serves on governance councils on the division and college's behalf, has budgetary authority over the division, and oversight and decision-making authority over how the division will apply, develop or determine policy impact and resource allocation. The Associate Dean ensures that all aspects of divisional support functions and instructional delivery are driven toward equity/inclusivity, teaching & learning excellence, community engagement and enrichment, college life and culture, and student success.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Division Leadership & Resource Management
- Provide leadership, development and support through a focus on diversity and equity, for division units:
- Library
- Collaborative Learning. *
- Coordinate and support assigned faculty lead programs and functions:
- Center for Engaged Teaching and Learning
- Pathways practices
- Learning outcome and assessment
- First-year experience community of practice and courses. *
- Support the Vice President of Learning in program review processes, coordination, and evaluation for Academic Affairs. *
- Collaborate with academic divisions, Student Affairs, eLearning, and other units on campus to support instruction, enrollment management and student success. *
- Partner with the Dean of Student Support Services to develop opportunities for Academic Affairs and Student Affairs to better serve students. *
- Coordinate strategic direction, vision and goals, and support the division in the development of new initiatives in alignment with Academic Affairs' annual priorities and the college's strategic plan. *
- Represent Connected Learning through interactions with the college, accrediting bodies, State and national government agencies, and community partners. *
- Develop a collaborative climate for fulfilling division and college objectives through team and consensus building among all stakeholders. *
- Monitor allocated budget and advocate for resources to fulfill divisional priorities and initiatives. Establish and monitor resource priorities, allocations, protocols, and strategic enrollment management to achieve maximum efficiency in budget allocation and revenue generation. Maintain and monitor assigned budgets. Assist with budget development and provide budget updates as requested. *
- Obtain and provide oversight for funding (grants, community support, governmental funding, etc.) for Connected Learning. Seek and write grants or alternative funding. *
- Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions. *
Manage Personnel
- Supervise exempt and classified employees. Direct recruiting, hiring, onboarding, retaining, mentoring, supervising, training and developing, evaluating and disciplining a diverse workforce within the division. *
- Provide culturally competent mentoring, problem solving and leadership to faculty and staff, including resolving issues internally and externally to the department. *
- Support opportunities for faculty and staff to keep updated on matters of educational equity and cultural competency. *
- Ensure faculty maintain knowledge of current curricular expertise. *
- Work with students and faculty in conjunction with appropriate college units to resolve concerns raised within divisional units. *
- Monitor and advise division staff on service and shared governance obligations for the college. *
- Assist in the collection of data and preparing reports regarding annual program performance objectives and campus strategic goals. (i.e., under-represented student retention, academic progress or graduation, transfer). *
- Serve on SFCC and CCS committees and attend state-wide meetings and conferences related to student success initiatives and other intervention strategies as assigned by supervisor. *
- Represent Academic Affairs and Connected Learning in governance councils, committees, and task forces.
- Serve as part of the Academic Affairs and College Leadership Teams. *
- Serve as college representative to appropriate State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) councils and other external constituents. *
College Governance
- Contribute to college-wide initiatives, diversity and equity priorities, internal partnerships, and collaborations, and lead implementation of college initiatives within Connected Learning. *
- Serve as the Copyright Officer for SFCC and work collaboratively with the other two district Copyright Officers to fulfill copyright compliance responsibilities. Responsible for distributing and posting copyright guidelines, acting as the college resource regarding copyright matters and providing information on current copyright laws.
- Comply with district policies, procedures and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statutes and collective bargaining agreements. *
- Support and advance the SFCC and CCS strategic plan, and perform other duties as assigned. *
Community Engagement
- Recruit community partners for exhibits, speakers, program advisory committees, experiential learning, etc. *
- Work with Institutional Advancement to publicize and promote programs in the community. *
- Manage outreach activities including marketing of the program benefits to appropriate audiences and in suitable venues. *
- Represent the division and the college in community outreach events. *
- Indicates this is an essential duty.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's Degree from an accredited institution.
- Two years' full-time or equivalent part-time teaching experience, librarianship, or instructional design.
- Three years' experience with managing complex and diverse organizational units with competing needs.
- Experience working with diverse individuals in a collaborative and inclusive environment.
- Effective communication skills.
- Intermediate to advanced skill level in computer programs including MS Office Suite and Outlook.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated effectiveness working in or providing leadership for one or more of the following areas: library, tutoring, undergraduate research, service-learning, project-based learning.
- Teaching experience in higher education.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Contract 12-month position.
- Position is exempt from Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
- Requires local or regional travel.
- Criminal background check is required.

Benefits Information
This is a contracted, exempt management position. Medical, dental life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under the Public Employees Benefits Board; TIAA-Cref retirement plan or WA State Retirement Plan. Vacation leave accrues at the rate of 14.67 hours per month (22 days per year) and sick leave accrues at the rate of 8 hours per month, effective upon employment. (For positions that are less than full time, leave accruals will be prorated to the percentage of the position.)
